Stow were looking to climb the table with a win against Newtown at Stow but a terrible first half performance saw them chasing the game.The game only came to life after 26 minutes when Leitch clattered into the back of Smith to earn himself a caution. Henry in the visitors goal made use of his reactions make several smart saves to deny the home side. 3 minutes from half time Charters made use of the new offside rules to put the visitors in front when poor marking allowed the striker to evade the defence and round Scott to score. Worse was to follow when Todd bundled the ball over the Stow goal line with seconds remaining of the first half.
The second half saw Stow press for a goal and Hewitt provided number 1 when he headed home unchallenged from a corner. The home side drew level after 73 minutes when Stewart scored following a short corner move. Controversy followed when Hewitt was upended in the box by keeper Henry when clean through. However few on either side of the pitch could believe the resulting decision of a goal kick. With 2 minutes remaining and the home side pressing for a winner the Stow defence failed to deal with a long high ball and the ball broke for Charters to strike a shot from 18 yards into the bottom corner to give Newtown the win. |
