In a re-run of last year's Border Cup Final Stow took on Chirnside in the 1st round of this year's tournament. After a poor first 20 minutes things began to liven up and Stow took the lead when Marszalek finished off a great move involving Hewitt and Runciman. Minutes later Anderson in the visiting goal produced a a brilliant 1 handed save down low to his right from Armstrong. Chirnside equalised when the referee ajudged a Stow player to have handled outside the box and from the resulting free kick Lauder was allowed to spin in the box and score. Just on half time Anderson again showed great agility to push a goal bound Turner shot over the bar.
Soon into the second half Chirnside took the lead when Armstrong found space on the right and fired home from 12 yards. Stow suffered a blow when keeper Anderson had to leave the field but Scott proved more than an able replacement with some fine handling. Stow rang the chnages but despite going close could not get the equaliser. The main chance being a one on one with keeper which the keeper managed to block. A good performance from a young Stow side who will learn from the experience.
